Dr. Courtney Byrd has joined the team here at Charlotte Pediatric Dentistry. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and minor in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Let’s get to know her a little better.
Why did you decide to focus on pediatric dentistry rather than general dentistry?
I have always loved the imagination that kids possess. The possibilities are endless!
Have you always wanted to be a dentist? If not, what did you want to be as a kid?
I have always been interested in healthcare and eventually found a way to combine my love of science and art with dentistry!
Why did you choose Charlotte Pediatric Dentistry?
I was excited to join a group practice with a long tenure of providing dental services to the pediatric and special needs populations in the community.
Do you have kids?
I do not have kids but I do have a 3 year old nephew who is currently obsessed with race cars!
What are some of your “tricks” to help ease kids’ fears about their dental visits?
I love “going down the rabbit hole” with kids as their playful thoughts run wild considering the possibilities that are achievable through imagination during their appointment!
What’s the best part of your day?
When I get a hug from a patient because what they may have expected to be a negative experience turned out to be a fun time!

What is something you are passionate about outside of dentistry?
Travel and Art. I love to travel and discover parts of this expansive world of ours. Each trip proves to add value to my life in experiences and knowledge. I also love creating art as an self-expressive outlet. I often gain major inspiration for my art through my travels.
Do you have a favorite sports team?
I’m a hometown fan so I always KEEP POUNDING for the Carolina Panthers.
