Dr. Amanda Kerns
Amanda Kerns, DDS, MS, Diplomate
Having gained both my BS in Biological Sciences and my husband, Ryan, during my time at NC State University, I will always be a Wolfpack fan at heart. While earning my Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Chapel Hill, I researched and co-authored several studies on the links between pregnancy and infant oral health.
How I Became a Pediatric Dentist
A longtime children’s basketball coach, I discovered my passion for pediatric dentistry during a service trip to Costa Rica. I completed my training in pediatric dentistry at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, where I received both a specialty certificate and a master’s degree. My master’s thesis focused on identifying strategies for addressing the epidemic of early childhood caries, and this is a cause I remain passionate about.
From 2018 to 2020, I worked as one of only three pediatric dentists on the island of Kauai, Hawaii; an experience I will always treasure! As my family grew to include our son, my husband and I moved back “home” to Charlotte to be closer to our family.
